Have you need those new grid-based “bar codes” on items at your local store? They’re popping up everywhere now. They look something like this:
SIX15 solutions QR-Code
How would one use something like this? Well, in a print magazine for example, if you embed one of these codes in your add, and someone scans it with their smart phone, you could configure your QR-Code to navigate to a specific page on your website that somehow ties into a promotion you’re running.
There’s an app for that. If you’re lucky enough to own an iPhone, you can download (for free) the Red Laser app from the App Store (iTunes link). Once installed, run the app and simply point the device’s camera at the QR-Code and it will recognize it, then open up the web browser and automatically navigate to the page you want.
Even easier. This website allows for anyone to create their own QR-Code for free (limited, non-commercial use for now).
I use WordPress for most of my client projects. What makes WordPress so attractive for client website project work is its flexibility. With literally thousands of plugins available that extend the functionality of the tool, and customizable theme files, someone can make a WordPress-powered site into almost anything.
One of the many things that is easily customizable is the graphic that displays on the WordPress Administration Login Page. There are several plugins out in the wild that handle this fairly easy, but really, using your theme’s function.php file, there’s no need for a plugin as it only takes 10 lines of code.
